Doing Creative Work in a Climate Crisis

Doing Creative Work in a Climate Crisis

In April 2025 I gave a workshop at STPLN, a creative hub here in Malmö. It was titled "Doing Creative Work in a Climate Crisis", and it outlined a bunch of strategies that people who run small creative businesses or organisations can use to tackle the psychic tornado of trying to do what we do amidst... gestures wildly at everything.

The workshop went well, and I'm giving it again this year. But in thinking about what I want to change this year, I realised that I wanted to create a small artefact that people can take away with them afterwards to keep some of the tools and approaches front-of-mind. So I made a zine. It's a 24-page distillation of all of the best bits of the workshop, but it's also designed as a standalone resource that anyone can use to imagine that they attended the workshop (or run a miniature one-person version of it for themselves).

I printed it at Beast Studio, a community riso studio here in Malmö. The process was quite involved, but it was fun to do every single part of it - writing, design, images, layout & pagination, printing, cutting up the prints, assembling them into zines, creasing the spines, stapling, trimming the edges. The folks at Beast helped with lots of advice along the way, but I did basically everything myself, which feels nice.

I printed 80 copies, and after giving some to friends and family and sending the required copies to the Swedish national archives, and setting a bunch aside to give to my workshop participants, I've got a few left - so email me if you want to buy one. Oh, and if you'd like me to give the workshop to your audience then I'd love to - shoot me an email about that too. For either, you can reach me at hello@duncangeere.com.
